harter services required by politicians and rescue missions, the company grew to become one of the largest private air charter companies in India. Riding on the success of Deccan aviation and inspired by the success of low-cost airlines like Southwest Airlines, he soon established Air Deccan in 2003, India\'s first low-cost airline. In 2007, Air Deccan merged with Kingfisher Airlines, and Capt. Gopinath sold all his stakes to Vijay Mallya except the charter division. The Charter division was later renamed Deccan Charters and continued Non-scheduled operations. Today, they operate a fleet of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to fly chartered as well as schedule routes inside India. Recently, the Deccan charter also won 34 routes under the RCS UDAN scheme to operate government-subsidized services to remote and underdeveloped parts of the country.
